La France – Between Enlightenment and Gallantry.
Masterworks of Graphic Reproduction from the Era of Watteau
Augustinermuseum - Haus der Graphischen Sammlung
In the 18th century, book illustration was flourishing in France: the bourgeoisie could not get enough illustrated novels and poems - also popular were print series of Rococo paintings.
The Haus der Graphischen Sammlung is showing drawings, prints and illustrated editions of galant literature, satirical novels and moral fables from the donation of the Freiburg collector Josef Lienhart, including etchings by François Boucher and pictorial inventions by Antoine Watteau.
