Feeding not allowed – but why?

Well-intentioned, but bad for the animals

People feeding our animals mean well. But the food they give unfortunately often causes the animals we care for pain and serious illnesses – some become overweight, some get caries, various allergies, diabetes – and sometimes the illnesses are even fatal. Only our specialists know exactly what the animals need and what keeps them healthy.

Fighting over food? No thanks!

Only our specialists know exactly how and in what order they have to feed the animals so that they are all fed and get the right thing. The animals might fight among themselves if you offer something to individual animals, creating stress, which can also lead to injuries.

Feeding leads to unnatural behaviour

Visitors offering foods change the animals’ natural behaviour. They come to expect more and more, begging, stamping with their hooves or snapping. It then becomes very difficult for our specialists to assess how the animals under their care are doing. It can even lead to dangerous situations and accidents.

Feeding animals requires a lot of expertise

Each animal has very specific needs that we take into account to keep them healthy. Not only is age important, but also the season, the current weather and possible illnesses.
Our animal keepers and vets know their charges as well as a family doctor knows his patients. They draw up appropriate dietary plans, mix extra supplements, make sure they get their minerals and much more. They have learned all of this in their training and by experience – and of course during their career.

Unfortunately, we have guests every now and then who are not as responsible as you. Mundenhof therefore reserves the right to ban people who do not comply with the feeding ban from the premises.
