Park + Ride
If you want to go into town, you can park at one of the park-and-ride locations (P+R) in the city area and travel to the centre comfortably and environmentally friendly by bus or train.
Anyone parking their car here must have a valid ticket for local transport or a parking permit. This applies to the five P+R car parks on Bissierstraße, Gundelfinger Straße, Moosweiher, Munzinger Straße and Paduaallee.
This is to ensure that there is no free parking without a ride. This is because people are increasingly parking at P+R facilities without subsequently switching to local transport. However, if commuters cannot find a parking space and therefore find it difficult to use public transport, the idea behind the P+R system is undermined.
Proof required
Anyone parking their car in a P+R parking space must either have a parking ticket or proof of a public transport ticket. Proof of one of these two tickets must be placed clearly visible behind the windscreen. Parking in these spaces is then permitted for a maximum of 24 hours at a time.
Holders of a valid RVF season ticket, such as a Regiokarte, SC ticket or DB City ticket, can download and print a parking permit from the VAG online shop. The parking permit can also be issued at the VAG Pluspunkt (Salzstraße 3). The parking permit may only be used if a valid ticket is carried.
If you do not yet have a ticket for public transport before parking in the P+R areas, you can purchase one from one of the parking ticket machines. In addition to the ticket, you will also receive a parking permit. Day tickets for public transport are valid until 3 a.m. the following day, and parking tickets are valid for 24 hours.
Single tickets, 2x4 journey tickets and the straight line distance-tikets cannot be used for P+R. The cheapest option for occasional travellers is the parking permit including a day ticket.
Citizens who park their cars in the P+R car parks and do not then use public transport must purchase a day ticket from the ticket machine or via the Park-App-Freiburg.
Park and ride facilities in Freiburg
The service in Freiburg is particularly convenient, as the Freiburg light rail system runs at frequent intervals – during rush hour as follows:
- Line 1: every 6 Min.
- Line 2: every 10 Min.
- Line 3: every 7,5 Min.
- Line 4: every 10 Min.
- Line 5: every 7,5 Min.
All light rail lines take you quickly and directly to Freiburg city centre.
Please note:
P+R spaces 6 and 7 on Bissierstraße are only available at certain times. You can park at all other spaces every day. On SC home match days, a parking fee is charged at the ‘Messe’ P+R space.
Follow the P+R signs – the car parks are well signposted. You will find additional P+R car parks at many train stations in the region.
Further information on P+R can also be found at Freiburger Verkehrs AG at www.vag-freiburg.de/park-ride.
