Freiburg is funded for EU project Greencycle
EU-Interreg Alpine Space Projekt
The city of Freiburg, as one of 10 partners from 6 different countries, is being funded for the EU-Interreg Alpine Space Project Greencycle. Greencycle is all about the introduction of a circular economy system in the Alpine Space in order to reduce CO2 emissions. The aim of the project is to introduce the system of circular economy as a holistic approach and thus promote cross-sectoral cooperation. In addition to the waste management sector, circular economy comes up in other sectors such as energy, transport/ mobility as well as construction/ building.
The project objectives/ results are:
- Develop local circular economy strategies
- Develop a toolbox for the introduction of circular economy as well as testing in the context of local pilot projects in each city
- Establish a transnational circular economy cooperation platform to provide a central market place, to share best practices and circular economy solutions
The project will last three years (Oct 2016 – Oct 2019).
Greencycle is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Alpine Space Programme. The city of Freiburg receives a grant of 229,200 Euros.
