Greiffenegg und Ramberg. A friendship reflected in drawings

Augustinermuseum – Haus der Graphischen Sammlung

Hermann Gottlob von Greiffenegg-Wolffurt (1773 – 1847), a diplomat in the service of the Habsburgs, enjoyed a close friendship with the renowned artist at the Court of Hanover, Johann Heinrich Ramberg (1763 – 1840). This is revealed in some of Ramberg’s spontaneously drawn sketches and caricatures that he dedicated to his patron as well as von Greiffenegg’s wife and sister-in-law. They form the core of the exhibition on the scandal-ridden life of this flamboyant Freiburg personality.
