Archäologisches Museum Colombischlössle
17th March 2011 – 26th February 2012
In the Colombischlössle Archaeological Museum a fascinating journey into the world of the Pharaohs awaits children and adolescents. Brightly painted images on a real Egyptian sarcophagus tell of the belief in many Gods and eternal life. Lettering and writing utensils report on the profession of the scribe and the mysterious hieroglyphs they used. The clothes that Egyptians wore and the importance they attached to their appearance is demonstrated with shoes, jewellery and cosmetic accessories. Musical instruments also allow visitors to image how they would have celebrated and played music.
On their voyage of discovery, the children themselves become apprentice scribes, dress up in Egyptian costume, grind spices, smell exotic scents, wear makeup like Cleopatra or Ramses and elicit rich sounds from musical instruments.
Visitors can also view a playmobil model depicting fascinating life on the Nile. Giant pyramids and the enigmatic Sphinx of Giza rise up out of the scene. The great army of the pharaoh is preparing for battle, and on the Nile, the lifeline of Egypt, a merchant vessel arrives carrying precious goods from far-off lands.
