Arrival and Mobility in Freiburg


By train

With the ICE you can reach Freiburg easily from all over Germany. If you are planning day trips from Freiburg, the advantages of the Regio-Card will be helpful. You can use it on all public transport (apart from ICE) in the region of Freiburg.


By car

Freiburg is easily accessible from the A5 Karlsruhe-Basel, and coming from the east you can reach us via the B31. So that you don't have to spend a long time searching for a parking space, use our parking guide system which will provide you with up to date information about the locations and free parking spaces in our car parks


By coach

Coach companies and their tour groups will be directed to the coach parks near to the city centre at Karlsplatz, Stadtgarten and Schreiberanlage quickly and directly, with the help of the advance direction signs. This means that the passengers can alight or disembark in the immediate vicinity of the pedestrian zone.


By aeroplane

You can reach the Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg EuroAirport via a bus shuttle service in 55 minutes. Freiburg has its own air field, the Freiburg airfield.


...by foot

Freiburg city centre is the city for people on foot. Pedestrians enjoy priority and free reign here. Almost the whole of the city centre is a pedestrian zone, all businesses within the city centre ring road can be reached easily by foot and in just a short time. Only the city railway runs through the city centre and brings you directly to the pedestrian zone.


...by bike

Freiburg is a city of cyclists. More than 400 kilometres of cycle paths and Freiburg's cycling mad population have made the bicycle the second most popular means of transport. Almost 30% of the transport routes within the Breisgau city are covered by bicycle.


…by bus and train

Freiburg and the surrounding region have a very well developed network of local public transport, with buses and trams you can get around the city and region quickly, safely and comfortably.


...by car and motorbike

Our parking guide system makes it easier for you to find a free parking space, and quickly and comfortably leads you to one of the car parks in the city centre. You can find further parking spaces at a total of 3 managed parking zones in the city zone. At selected city railway stops on the edge of the city you can park your vehicle free of charge in Park & Ride spaces, and continue your journey into the city centre stress free with the city railway.

Low emission zones

Please note:
Large parts of the Freiburg city zones are environmental zones, where a green emissions sticker is required. If you drive or park in the environmental zone without a green sticker, you risk a fine of €80.

Vehicles with low pollution emissions will receive a green emissions sticker.
It can be purchased on presentation of the vehicle registration document for €5.

Vehicles without emissions stickers can be parked at the Park + Ride parking spaces on the edge of the city. From there it is easy to reach the Freiburg city zone by public transport. Another option is the car park 'Schwabentor' which is accessible from the B31 (not included in the low emission zone).
