The highlight of the Alemannic Fasnacht carnival is a gathering of all the Fasnacht organisations from the whole of the vicinity for the large Rosenmontag [Shrove Monday] procession in Freiburg. Floats and colourful costumes can be seen on the streets. People hidden under wild, almost sinister masks play jokes on others until late at night.

The Freiburg Christmas Market on the Rathausplatz in the heart of the Old Town is considered one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the whole of Germany. It is not only a tradition for residents of Freiburg, as thousands of visitors come every year from far away to capture its unique charm.
